About Nick

Nick Whalen, KC practises corporate and commercial law, technology law, and intellectual property law from Cox & Palmer's St. John's office, and is a registered patent and trademark agent through an affiliation with Deeth Williams Wall LLP. He also brings a background as a professional engineer (now non-practising) and as the Member of Parliament for St. John's East from November 2015 to October 2019, where he chaired the Atlantic Liberal Caucus and the House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. Born and raised in St. John's, Nick earned an LLB from McGill University and a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Engineering from Queen's University. He's a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Law Society of Ontario, an attorney in the State of New York, and a non-practising member of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador. He later earned the ICD.D designation through the Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Business and the Institute of Corporate Directors.
