Nick Whalen serves as counsel to Deeth Williams Wall, practising intellectual property law with a focus on patents and trademarks. His earlier career as a Member of Parliament for St. John's East from 2015 to 2019 and as a professional engineer gives him a distinct perspective on solving complex client problems. As an MP he chaired the Atlantic Liberal Caucus and a House of Commons committee dealing with citizenship and immigration, and sat on committees covering natural resources and government operations and estimates. His engineering background lies in applied mathematics and electrical engineering. Nick holds an LLB from McGill University and a BSc and MSc in Engineering from Queen's University. He belongs to the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Law Society of Ontario, and is admitted as an attorney in New York, and he was named a Fellow of Engineers Canada. He later earned the ICD.D designation through the Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Business.
