About John

John Shanks advises clients including municipalities, district health authorities, property owners, insurers, small business owners and construction firms who often know the problem they face but need help resolving it. His work has included representing municipalities in disputes over school board funding agreements, acting for landowners and expropriating authorities in expropriation and compensation claims, and representing both estates and beneficiaries in contested wills litigation. He also handles contractual and business disputes, including builders' liens and shareholder disagreements. He earned his LLB from the University of New Brunswick in 1997 and a BA (honours) from Acadia University in 1994. He was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1998 and teaches Civil Trial Practice at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University.
