About Marjorie

Marjorie A. Hickey, KC, is Deputy Managing Partner at McInnes Cooper, with a litigation and administrative law practice focused on regulatory and liability issues affecting professionals. She serves as legal counsel to the regulators of several professions, assisting with complaint investigations and disciplinary prosecutions and chairing adjudicative panels, and she also acts as defence counsel for professionals facing discipline. Marjorie has helped regulators draft legislation and bylaws and design investigative and disciplinary processes, and she provides training and policy advice to self-governing organizations. She served as President of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society in 2010-2011 and remains active on its committees. Marjorie is also a retired Commander in the Naval Reserve, having served 35 years including as Regional Coordinator of Naval Reserve Units in Atlantic Canada and Commanding Officer of HMCS Scotian, and she received the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers in 2021 for her governance work with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. She earned her LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1981 and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1982.
