About Michael

Michael Welters advises on taxes and inter-governmental fiscal relations, specializing in tax advice for the tax-exempt sector, including modern treaty nations, bands, municipalities, health authorities, school districts, charities, and non-profit organizations. He advises clients on obtaining and maintaining income tax exempt status, commodity tax obligations such as PST and GST, and property tax matters, and teaches Aboriginal tax as an adjunct professor at UBC's Faculty of Law. He has represented clients in tax disputes at both the administrative and court appeal levels covering income tax, carbon tax, PST, GST, EI, CPP, tobacco tax, and property tax, and assists clients with voluntary disclosures to tax authorities. He was called to the British Columbia bar in 2004.
