About Melissa

Melissa Rico is a partner at Carbert Waite LLP, which she joined in 2006 and where she became partner in 2017. Her primary practice areas are employment law and health law, representing both employers and employees on terminations, employment contracts, human rights, privacy and disability matters, and advising healthcare institutions and professionals on medical malpractice defence. She also maintains a practice in estate litigation and wills and estates. After being called to the Alberta bar in 2004, she completed a Canadian Bar Association internship in Tanzania assisting the Legal and Human Rights Centre in Dar es Salaam. She taught Health Law as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary from 2016 to 2018 and holds a B.Sc. and B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Calgary (2000) along with her LLB (2003).
