About Joe

Joe Thorne is a partner in Stewart McKelvey's St. John's office. Thorne's practice is broad-based commercial litigation, with particular focus on insolvency and restructuring, insurance defence, and municipal law. Thorne has appeared before all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as the Federal Court, the Quebec Superior Court, and Ontario courts. That experience includes defending a publicly traded company against a claim by a former director and officer, advising creditors and debtors in insolvency matters, and assisting municipalities in defending council decisions before appeal boards and courts. Thorne earned a JD from the University of Western Ontario in 2009 and a B.Sc. (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2003, was called to the Ontario bar in 2010 and the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 2013, and currently serves as a Bencher of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
