About Laura
Laura Warner carries on a generalized civil litigation practice with a focus on appellate advocacy, complex commercial disputes, and judicial review of government decisions, having appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. She was lead counsel in the Auer matter, where the Supreme Court of Canada settled the legal test for reviewing regulations, and as provincial counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association assists physicians with professional negligence and other medical-legal matters. Laura also serves as counsel to the Law Society of Alberta, assisting the regulator in prosecuting disciplinary hearings. She earned her BA with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2001 and her LLB in 2009, articling with the Court of Appeal in Edmonton and clerking for Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella at the Supreme Court of Canada. Called to the Alberta bar in 2010, she was named 2026 Lawyer of the Year in Corporate and Commercial Litigation in Calgary by Best Lawyers and has been recognized as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation since 2025.
