About Andrea

Andrea MacLean is an Associate at JSS Barristers with a strong focus on defamation law, having represented both plaintiffs and defendants, along with experience in corporate and commercial disputes, contract disputes, personal injury, debt claims, and insurance claims. Born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, she has appeared before the Alberta Court of King's Bench, the Alberta Court of Justice, and the Alberta Securities Commission. Before law, Andrea earned a Theatre Studies diploma from Red Deer College and a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University, and worked as a journalist in Calgary, receiving the Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of the 2013 Calgary floods. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2017 with Dean's List standing and was called to the Alberta bar in 2018, having clerked at the Provincial Court of Alberta and volunteered with Student Legal Assistance during law school.
