About Austin

Austin D. Nguyen joined JSS Barristers as an Associate in 2025 after articling with and practicing at a multi-national law firm, where he gained experience in intellectual property prosecution and IP-related transactions. He has a general civil litigation practice with a particular interest in IP matters (plant breeders' rights, copyright, trademark, patents, and trade secrets), employment, class actions, public and regulatory law, privacy, product liability, and defamation. Austin earned his Bachelor of Science in microbiology in 2016, his Master of Science in biochemistry in 2019, and his Juris Doctor in 2022, all from the University of Calgary, where he was awarded Top Oralist in the Bennett Jones Cup in Health Law Advocacy. He was called to the Alberta bar in 2023 and volunteers with the Court of King's Bench Amicus program and on the Board of Directors for Salingpusa Creatives, a Calgary arts and culture non-profit.
