About Jordan Diacur

Jordan Diacur is a partner in Gowling WLG's Hamilton office, handling civil litigation with a focus on franchise disputes and professional liability. Clients range from individuals to businesses and institutions, and Diacur often works through alternative dispute resolution alongside regular court appearances. Plenty of tough files have ended in favourable settlements, frequently at mediation, whether everyone's in the room or on a videoconference.

When a matter does go the distance, Diacur has taken cases to trial in Small Claims Court and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and has acted on appeals at the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Working with Michael Bordin, Diacur was counsel for Randy Fleming in Fleming v. Ontario, a civil liberties case at the Supreme Court of Canada about the limits of police powers. The Court allowed the appeal in 2019 and restored the trial judge's order. More recently, Diacur and Bevin Shores represented the City of Hamilton at the December 2024 hearing in Heegsma v. City of Hamilton, a Charter challenge by 14 people experiencing homelessness to the city's enforcement of encampment by-laws.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2014, Diacur completed the Osgoode Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop in July 2018. Best Lawyers listed Diacur in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2027 for corporate and commercial litigation, following Ones to Watch recognition from 2022 to 2024.

With history degrees from Brock and Guelph, Diacur also trained as a museum curator and spent several years in public museums and archives, including the Bertrand Russell Archives at McMaster University. Today Diacur is a member of the Hamilton Law Association's Collections & Library Excellence subcommittee and has spoken at its seminars on subjects like hearsay evidence and nuisance.
