About Joe

Joe Chan leads Richards Buell Sutton's Asia Pacific Group, heads its Corporate Finance Group, and is a member of the Business and Technology and Innovation Groups. He has practiced in Vancouver for two decades after previously practicing in Calgary, advising on business law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities and corporate finance for public and private companies across industries including technology, mining, private mortgage lending, real estate investment, and video games. His work includes IPOs, debt and equity financings, corporate governance, plans of arrangement, and both domestic and international going-private and reverse takeover transactions. Joe also serves as Vice-Chair of the Pacific Rim Advisory Council, an alliance of independent law firms across the Pacific Rim region. He received his LL.B. from the University of Calgary in 2003 and a B.Sc. from the same university in 1999, and was called to the bar in Alberta in 2004 and British Columbia in 2006. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in the area of Mergers and Acquisitions Law for the 2025-2026 editions.
