About Jo-Anne
Jo-Anne Yau is a commercial litigator and corporate counsel who litigates disputes over commercial property, professional liability, employment, expropriation, and contractual obligations, while also advising on intellectual property portfolios and franchising models. Her practice extends to the governance of generative AI and compliance with privacy, cybersecurity, and human rights regulations, as well as ESG and equity, diversity and inclusion matters, and she represents athletes, artists, and social media personalities on visibility-related legal issues. Yau earned her J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2004, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary in 1999, and an LL.M. with merit from the University of Strathclyde in 2019. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2004, registered as a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent attorney in 2005, admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in 2005, and admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2016. She serves as a director of Cybera, the Calgary French and International School Society, and Community Futures Centres West, and speaks regularly on generative AI and technology law.
