About James I.E. Jennings

James I.E. Jennings is a partner at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, where the work spans every part of labour and employment law on the employer's side. Labour relations, workers' compensation, and occupational health and safety get the most of James's attention, for unionized and non-unionized clients alike in fields such as manufacturing, construction and hospitality.

Safety and compensation run deep in James's background. James spent two summers as an intern with the Occupational Health and Safety Policy Branch at Ontario's Ministry of Labour and, while still a law student, volunteered as a caseworker for Advocates for Injured Workers, representing people with claims before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. After an honours degree in history and politics from Queen's University and a JD from the University of Toronto, James was called to the Ontario bar in 2018.

You'll find James regularly at the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal, the WSIB and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. It isn't all hearings, though: James also represents employers in collective bargaining and, for unionized clients, has sat at the table as lead spokesperson.

James often writes and gives talks on workplace questions, harassment and accommodation at work among them. Builders' associations have heard James present on health and safety, union organizing in construction and critical developments in labour and employment law, and James has co-chaired Ontario Bar Association programs. James is also one of the co-authors of the Employers' Guide to Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance, a Carswell handbook on handling compensation claims and the appeals system.
