About Ian

Ian T.D. Thomson is an Associate whose work is grounded in public policy and regulatory law, with particular attention to energy and infrastructure. He helps clients work through complex regulatory and governance challenges connected to energy projects, drawing on legal, policy, and political perspectives. His background includes stakeholder engagement, financial and data analysis, Indigenous consultation and agreements, and matters of tribunal governance. Before becoming a lawyer, Ian worked as an independent consultant, offering policy research and strategic advice to organizations, including Ontario's Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. In that role, he led national research projects on energy regulation, advised government panels, and wrote policy reports that influenced provincial energy planning and infrastructure development. Ian remains involved in thought leadership within legal and policy circles.
