About Ian

Ian Savage is a senior criminal defence lawyer with Strategic Criminal Defence, practicing out of Calgary. Ian has practiced law for 30 years, dedicating the last 25 exclusively to criminal defence and personally representing thousands of clients across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Ian has appeared at every level of court in both provinces as well as the Supreme Court of Canada, and several of these cases have helped shape the law around the right to counsel and search and seizure in Alberta. Legal conferences on criminal law developments are a regular speaking engagement, and Ian has served as president of the Criminal Defence Lawyers' Association in Calgary since 2013. That role involves helping influence court processes and policy affecting accused persons across the province. Ian is also frequently sought out by print, radio, and TV media for comment on criminal law issues.
