About Laura

Laura Bobyn is a criminal defence lawyer with Strategic Criminal Defence, practicing out of the firm's Calgary office. Laura earned a law degree with honours from the University of Birmingham in England, serving as the class's Faculty of Law Student Representative and reaching the semi-finals of the school's Advocacy Program Moot. During the final year of law school, Laura volunteered with the Free Legal Advice Group through the Pro Bono Society, providing help to people who couldn't get legal aid or afford private counsel. Laura's dissertation examined the UK's mental health legislation framework, an interest that carries into work with clients facing mental health challenges in the criminal justice system. In 2020, Laura completed a Master of Laws at the University of British Columbia to build a foundation in Canadian law before being called to the Alberta Bar.
