About Grant

Grant Sprague is counsel with executive experience in natural resource policy, regulation and governance. He served as Alberta's Deputy Minister of Energy from 2013 to 2016 and again from 2019 to 2023, and has held roles including Chair of the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Board and Director of the Alberta Energy Regulator. He has also taught environmental law and MBA courses at the University of Alberta and was named a Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute in 2023. Grant was called to the Alberta bar in 1989 and holds a law degree and a BA (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta. He was appointed King's Counsel and received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
