About Gavin
Gavin Giles is a partner at McInnes Cooper with a broad dispute resolution practice emphasizing commercial, construction, complex insurance and human rights matters. He has appeared before the Federal Court of Canada, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and other provincial superior courts, and also conducts an active commercial mediation and arbitration practice. From 1994 to 2021 he served as an Adjudicator, and later the first Chief Adjudicator, of the Nova Scotia Small Claims Court, presiding over more than 3,500 hearings. Gavin has served multiple terms on the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society's governing Council and its Hearing Committee, and has chaired its Law Office Management Standards Committee. He earned his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1985 and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1986. He is a past national chair of the Canadian Red Cross Society.
