About Fiona
Fiona Balaton is an associate at Carbert Waite LLP whose practice focuses on health law, including advice to health professionals on college issues and medical malpractice defence. Before law school she had a lengthy career as a registered nurse in post-anesthesia care, working in Scotland, Saudi Arabia and Canada. She remains involved with the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, providing mentorship and teaching assistance in Conflicts of Laws and Employment Law, and helps organize the university's mooting competitions. She recently completed a Master of Laws at the University of Calgary in 2024, researching the role of tort law in vaccine hesitancy and refusal, after earning her JD there in 2018 and a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing from Robert Gordon University in Scotland in 1996.
