About Donald B. Jarvis

Donald Jarvis represents management on labour relations, human rights and employment matters, and has held the Law Society's certification as a Specialist in Labour Law since 1998. As a Toronto partner at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti, Donald counts both public and private employers as clients, with organizations in manufacturing, healthcare and municipal government among them. Human rights files, wrongful dismissal claims and employment litigation make up a steady share of the work.

Much of that work happens in front of a decision-maker. Donald appears for employers at labour boards and arbitration boards, in court, and before the many other administrative tribunals that hear workplace disputes. When a collective agreement is being negotiated, Donald can also take the lead as the employer's spokesperson at the bargaining table.

A Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University came first, followed by a law degree from Dalhousie University and a call to the Ontario bar in 1988. Donald moved to Filion as an associate two years later and has been a partner there since 1994.

Clients and colleagues also know Donald through teaching and writing. Thomson Reuters has published books Donald co-wrote on discipline and termination and on the Canada Labour Code, and Donald taught The Law of Industrial Conflict in the Osgoode Certificate in Labour Law every year from 2013 to 2018. Employer groups and fellow labour lawyers hear Donald speak on workplace law often, and the Ontario Bar Association's Labour Relations Section had Donald as its chair in 2003 and 2004.
