About Derek
Derek's civil litigation practice centres on class actions and complex commercial disputes. Called to the Ontario bar in 2006, he practised with two specialized Toronto litigation boutiques before joining the firm in 2025, working on teams behind some of Canada's largest class actions. He co-authored two texts on Ontario civil procedure, Holmested and Watson: Ontario Civil Procedure and Watson and McGowan, Ontario Civil Practice, and serves on the Rules Secretariat of the Ontario Civil Rules Committee. Derek graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2005, where he won the Sir Jack Jacob Prize for placing first in Class Actions, and competed on Osgoode's trial advocacy mooting team, finishing second in both the Ontario Arnup Cup and the National Sopinka Cup.
