About Derek
Cranna practises administrative law in the context of professional regulation, policing, labour, and occupational health and safety, acting as counsel to Alberta regulatory bodies and municipal police services in disciplinary investigations and prosecutions, and as independent counsel to disciplinary tribunals. He represents police and peace officer service leaders in professional discipline, civil litigation, and employment matters, and advises major Alberta post-secondary institutions on labour relations and governance. He has appeared before all levels of Alberta court, the Federal Court, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Called to the Alberta Bar in 2001, he was appointed King's Counsel in 2020 and previously chaired the board of Legal Aid Alberta.
