About David
David Irvine is an immigration lawyer in McInnes Cooper's Sydney office, with a practice that also spans litigation and wills and estates. His litigation work includes immigration matters such as refugee hearings, inadmissibility appeals, removal proceedings and judicial review applications, and he has appeared before all levels of court in Nova Scotia as well as the Immigration and Refugee Board. He also advises clients on temporary and permanent residency applications and the impact of criminality on immigration status, and his wills and estates work covers planning, administration, litigation and adult representation applications. Before practising law, David spent more than a decade in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Naval Engineering Officer. He holds a J.D. from Dalhousie University and a B.Sc. in Physics from Mount Allison University, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2021. He is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Cape Breton Barristers' Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers.
