Administrative & Regulatory LawMark Ertel has been with Bayne Sellar Ertel Macrae since beginning his articles in 1990, was called to the bar in 1992, and became a partner in 1999. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in criminal law. In more than 30 years of practice he has defended cases involving theft, fraud, weapons offences, partner assault, drug offences, robbery, arson, impaired driving, manslaughter, murder and terrorism, as well as provincial 'quasi-criminal' offences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, environmental legislation, and the Canada Labour Code. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a past president of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, where he lobbied on law reform and organized education programs for Eastern Ontario lawyers. He lectures regularly on criminal law at the Law Society's Bar Admission Course and Continuing Education programs, and has taught law students at the University of Ottawa and criminology students at Carleton University.
