About Carly Jacuk

Carly Jacuk defends health care professionals, both when a regulator brings proceedings and when a civil claim lands. It's part of a wider practice in insurance defence and professional liability, which Carly carries on as an associate with the Disputes group at Gowling WLG in Ottawa.

Courtroom experience covers the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Small Claims Court, while tribunal work has taken Carly before the Licence Appeal Tribunal and College disciplinary hearings. Carly has also acted for clients in arbitration. On paper or on their feet, Carly's commitment is to arguments that are carefully reasoned, clearly put and aimed squarely at what the client needs.

Law wasn't Carly's first career. Several years in social services came before law school at the University of Ottawa, and as a student in its common law program Carly co-wrote, with Hassan Rasmi Hassan, a Department of Justice Canada review of how courts handled third-party records applications between 2011 and 2017. Called in Ontario in 2020 and later in Alberta, Carly spent time at an Ottawa litigation firm, mostly on insurance defence, professional liability and employment files, before moving to Gowling WLG.
