Rayman Barristers LLP is a Toronto litigation firm built around expropriation law and property rights, working from an office on The Esplanade near the city's downtown waterfront. The firm traces back to Rayman Beitchman LLP, practised for several years as Rayman Harris LLP starting in 2022, and now operates under the Rayman Barristers name. Its lawyers have worked on more than 1,150 expropriation files for clients that include multinational corporations, farmers, property developers, homeowners, municipalities and small businesses, and the firm also advises expropriating authorities on the other side of the table.
Founding partner Shane Rayman earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2001. Rayman was senior counsel for the appellant in Antrim Truck Centre v. Ontario (Ministry of Transportation), where the Supreme Court of Canada issued a unanimous decision in the property owner's favour, and has since acted as intervenor counsel for the Canadian Home Builders' Association in later Supreme Court cases on property rights. The firm's expropriation work has touched major Ontario infrastructure, including the Ontario Line, Highway 413 and several Metrolinx transit expansions, and its expropriation practice was ranked Tier 1 in the 2026 Best Lawyers Best Law Firms rankings.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentThe firm's office sits on The Esplanade in Toronto's St. Lawrence neighbourhood, a street that began as a waterfront rail corridor and was rebuilt starting in the late 1970s into a mixed residential street. Former rail lands became David Crombie Park, a long strip of green space along the south side, and the stretch near Scott and Market Streets is now known for its restaurants and cafes rather than its old freight yards.
That history gives the address a certain fit for a firm built around property rights: the surrounding St. Lawrence neighbourhood is often pointed to as a successful piece of urban redevelopment, and the nearby St. Lawrence Market, a farmers' market that has operated since 1803, anchors one of Toronto's oldest commercial districts.
