About R&D LLP

R&D LLP is a small business law firm on Huron Street in Toronto. The name comes from founding partners Brett Roane and Garth Dingwall, who run the firm's two practice groups. Roane heads the Business Law Group, working on incorporation and governance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and banking and lending. Dingwall heads the Litigation Group, which handles commercial litigation, real estate litigation, employment law, and construction and development disputes. The firm describes its work as aiming for Bay Street level service from a smaller team, without the bureaucracy of a large downtown firm.

The firm launched under the R&D LLP name on January 1, 2023, keeping the same team it had before the rebrand. In April 2024 it took on the corporate practice of Fish & Associates, a firm that had operated in Thornhill, Ontario for more than 50 years. Fish & Associates kept its estate planning and real estate work. Nine lawyers now work across the firm's two groups. Several of them, including Roane and Dingwall, have been named to the Toronto's Top Lawyers list published by Post City Magazines, and the firm has sponsored entrepreneurship events through Schulich Startups and Pitchforce.
