EY Law LLP is a national business law firm affiliated with Ernst & Young LLP, the professional services firm, in Canada. The two are separate but related Ontario limited liability partnerships, and EY Law draws on the broader EY network for cross-border and global support. It's headquartered in Toronto's EY Tower on Adelaide Street West, with additional offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver. The firm's people page lists dozens of lawyers, partners, associates and other professionals spread across those six cities.
The firm concentrates on four areas: business law, covering corporate and commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, and technology-enabled legal managed services; business immigration, covering Canadian and US work permits, visas and permanent residence applications for organizations relocating staff; employment and labour law; and tax law. Its immigration group draws on EY's wider network, described on the firm's site as including more than 2,000 immigration professionals across more than 160 countries. The tax group's work spans corporate, transaction and indirect tax planning as well as tax controversy, and its lawyers appear at all court levels up to the Tax Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada.
EY Law's head office sits inside EY Tower at 100 Adelaide Street West, in Toronto's Financial District. The 42-storey tower, completed in 2017 and certified LEED Platinum, was built around the surviving facade of the 1928 Concourse Building, an Art Deco office block that once housed the Toronto Industrial Commission. That older building's arched entrance and its mosaic frieze by Group of Seven painter J.E.H. MacDonald were preserved and worked into the new tower's base, so a firm doing corporate, tax and immigration work for businesses today operates from a site with its own layer of Toronto architectural history, a short walk from the King and Bay Streets intersection that anchors the rest of the city's banking and legal community.
