Negligence, breach of contract and urgent injunctions are familiar ground for Tom Collins, who has prosecuted and defended claims of each kind and has acted for plaintiffs as well as defendants. Collins is an associate litigator in the Advocacy Department at Gowling WLG in Toronto, called to the Ontario bar in 2021. Professional liability sits at the centre of the practice, alongside complex disputes over infrastructure and the environment.

You can work with Collins in English or French. The client list runs from municipalities and lenders to developers, contractors and the engineers, architects and consultants, and the work reaches into energy, transit and health care. Beyond the core practice, Collins has also handled defamation and white collar defence matters.

The University of Toronto's 2020 Patricia Julia Myhal Scholarship recognized excellence in legal writing, and Collins has published on the standard of review for standard form wills and co-authored, with Jim Phillips, a chapter on the colonial roots of the division of powers in the British North America Act. Law came after an arts background: Collins holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art history from Concordia University, earned with Great Distinction, before the JD at Toronto.
