About Syll Kushner

Commercial real estate is the core of Syll Kushner's work as a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office. Kushner helps clients buy, sell, develop and finance commercial property of every class, and also handles leasing along with asset and property management. Investors from Canada and abroad, landlords, tenants, pension funds and institutional investors all turn to Kushner on these files.

Environmental questions run through much of that practice. Kushner has particular experience with complex disputes over contaminated land and the settlements that end them. On corporate deals, the partner regularly advises on environmental risk, works to find and resolve liability problems, and negotiates the contract terms covering a transaction's environmental side.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2005, Kushner practises in the firm's Real Estate, Environmental and Urban Development department. Best Lawyers has recognized Kushner for Real Estate Law since 2024. Back in 2016, Kushner was on the Gowling WLG team acting for Infrastructure Ontario and Mackenzie Health when financial close was reached on the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital in York Region.

There's a musical streak here too. Kushner has served as a judge for the Juno Awards and sat on the Canadian Country Music Association's Awards and Balloting Committee. Kushner is also a former director of The Community Association for Riding for the Disabled, and you'll find the lawyer on the planning committee for the International Council of Shopping Centres' Next Generation Section.
