About Stuart

Stuart Svonkin co-founded Chernos Flaherty Svonkin LLP with David Chernos and Pat Flaherty after practising for over a decade at Torys LLP in Toronto, including six years as a partner there. His civil litigation practice covers a broad range of complex business disputes, from contract and oppression claims to professional negligence, technology licensing, copyright and intellectual property issues, media and privacy law, and class actions. He has appeared before every level of court in Ontario, the Federal Court, the Tax Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada, and frequently handles domestic and international arbitrations along with matters before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Stuart was called to the Ontario bar in 2003 and the Massachusetts bar in 1999, holding a JD cum laude from Harvard Law School, a PhD from Columbia University, and a BA from Wesleyan University. He is regularly recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Benchmark Canada for his commercial litigation and intellectual property work.
