About Stephen

Stephen May is Counsel in Cox & Palmer's St. John's office, called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 1988 after completing his law degree at the University of Ottawa. His practice focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance, acting for insurers that underwrite home, automobile, disability, and errors and omissions coverage in Newfoundland and Labrador. He has advised on policy drafting, interpretation, and claims handling, and has counseled government, aboriginal groups, and corporations on constitutional issues including aboriginal land claims. Stephen has appeared before various administrative tribunals, all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He was appointed King's Counsel in 2017.
