About Stephanie Sutherland

Condo boards, property managers and unit owners rely on Stephanie Sutherland for help with the everyday business of running a condominium, and with the disputes that can follow. Working as an associate lawyer in Cohen Highley LLP's Kitchener office, Stephanie works to resolve conflicts in a way that keeps the condo community a positive place to live. The practice also takes in condo litigation and development, landlord and tenant law and not-for-profit governance.

The work runs from mediations and arbitrations to litigation as far as the Divisional Court and hearings before several Ontario tribunals. In May 2023 Stephanie was elected a bencher of the Law Society of Ontario, for a term that runs until 2027.

Stephanie is an active member of Ontario's condo community, and much of that involvement runs through the Canadian Condominium Institute. The institute awarded Stephanie its ACCI designation in 2015 and its successor, the LCCI, in 2022. Stephanie takes part in the Golden Horseshoe, Grand River and London chapters, served as secretary of the Grand River board heading into 2024, and speaks often at CCI courses, seminars and conferences. Condo News has run Stephanie's articles, including a 2020 explainer on section 98 agreements.

Stephanie has also taken condo questions on Cohen Highley's On Air segments. In one, Stephanie pointed out that most condo trouble comes down to three things: pets, parking and people. In another, buyers were told to look hard at a building's reserve fund, since costs have outrun estimates and many funds are falling short. Away from work, Stephanie fosters animals for All Creatures Rescue and enjoys time with family, friends and a busy household of pets, two dogs named Leia and Vada among them.
