About Alexa Duggan

Alexa Duggan is a personal injury lawyer at Cohen Highley in London, working with people who live with a disability, people with human rights claims, and survivors of sexual assault and abuse. The goal on each file is a practical one: the medical treatment a client needs and fair compensation, with getting better kept at the centre. Survivors get a trauma-informed approach, built to avoid causing fresh harm and to back each person as an individual right through the claim.

Alexa came to the firm's injury team after practising personal injury and disability law at a different London firm. Law school was Osgoode Hall, following a political science undergrad at Western, and during the Osgoode years Alexa worked with the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, which gives legal help and advocacy to women who've lived through violence.

Alexa's courtroom work has run from a jury trial to the country's top court. In 2023 Alexa and Vicki Edgar took McCurdy v. Maille, a motor vehicle collision claim, through a three-week jury trial for the injured plaintiff. In February 2026 the Supreme Court of Canada heard Hemmings v. Padmore, a medical negligence appeal over a mother's brain injury during a caesarean section that raises how causation applies in women's health care, and Alexa was one of the lawyers for two interveners, the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada and the Ontario Coalition of Abortion Clinics. Alexa also writes case summaries for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, on Court of Appeal rulings about everything from umbrella insurance priority to an institution's liability for abuse.

Kindness, compassion and fairness are what Alexa sees as the base of a strong community, and they're meant to shape the practice too. Away from work, Alexa is vegan and an animal advocate: cats that are injured or abandoned get fostered until a permanent home turns up, wildlife needing rehab gets a hand, and every one of Alexa's own pets is a rescue. Free time goes to hiking, kayaking, bird watching and softball in a local league, and Alexa is a keen cyclist with a love of vintage bicycles who speaks up for protecting trees.
