About Benjamin Charlebois

Benjamin Charlebois is a litigator in the Multi-Residential Housing Group at Cohen Highley LLP. Most of Ben's work is strategic advice for the people who own and run housing, whether that's a condominium corporation, a housing provider or a property manager. Ben also helps clients with disputes over commercial leases. Ben is committed to tackling each challenge with creativity and persistence, always looking for ways to improve results for clients.

Before law school, Ben worked at a firm practising WSIB law and then joined the Government of Ontario, serving one Premier and two Cabinet Ministers, with a stint as political advisor to the Attorney General. At Western Law the emphasis was on litigation and contract disputes, and courtroom skills showed early: a place in the final of the 2022 WeirFoulds-Arnup Cup and the Best Examination award at the national Sopinka Cup. The Ontario Bar call came in 2024.

Ben's housing practice shows up in public as well. In July 2025, Benjamin Charlebois of Cohen Highley was on the delegation list for a City of Brampton public meeting on its proposed Residential Rental Conversion and Demolition By-law, and sent the city written correspondence on it. Ben has also answered questions about landlord duties in short recorded interviews for the firm, on what to learn before renting out a unit and on who handles snow and ice in shared spaces.

Away from the office, Ben likes camping and live music and has stuck with the Toronto Maple Leafs through plenty of hard seasons.
