About Shawn
Shawn O'Connor has practiced construction, employment, and insurance litigation since 1985 and has appeared in all levels of Ontario courts as well as the Federal Court of Appeal. He advises insurers on construction losses and subrogation claims, and builders and homeowners on construction lien and building deficiency claims, and is experienced before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal on Statutory Accident Benefits matters. His notable matters include successfully arbitrating a $292,539 medical expense claim against an insurer that had denied coverage, representing the federal government in a leading case on family members' rights to sue an employer following a workplace death, and obtaining an interim injunction that recovered $490,000 for estate beneficiaries after an executor misused funds. From 1993 to 1998, he was an instructor for the Law Society of Upper Canada's Civil Litigation Bar Admission Course in Ottawa and continues to speak at continuing education programs. Shawn was elected Trustee of the County of Carleton Law Association in February 2026. He earned his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa Law School and a B.P.E. from the University of New Brunswick.
