About Scott
Scott Birse works within Osler's Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental practice, focusing on natural resource development, environmental law, energy regulation, and administrative and Indigenous law issues. Scott acts for companies seeking regulatory approvals for major wind, solar, battery storage, electricity transmission, pipeline, carbon capture and storage, and oil and gas projects. Scott advises on project planning and siting, environmental assessments, stakeholder consultation, ongoing regulatory compliance, and decommissioning and reclamation, and also assists with natural resource and environmental commercial transactions and regulatory enforcement matters. Scott has appeared before the Canada Energy Regulator, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal, the British Columbia Utilities Commission, the British Columbia Energy Regulator, and courts in Manitoba. Before practising law, Scott worked as an archaeologist in Manitoba. Scott holds a JD and a BA in Anthropology, Archaeology and Physical Anthropology from the University of Manitoba, and belongs to the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Manitoba.
