About Sahil Shoor

Sahil Shoor is a partner at Gowling WLG whose work centres on construction and infrastructure disputes. The projects behind those files cover a lot of ground: transit builds and public-private partnerships, bridges, tunnels and other civil works, commercial construction and real estate development, and power facilities that include nuclear and hydroelectric plants. Shoor brings the breadth of perspective that comes from acting for owners, contractors and design professionals.

Much of the work begins while construction is still underway, with Shoor advising as project counsel. When a dispute does arise, the claims range from delay and cost overruns to liens, surety bonds and design liability. They're resolved in court, arbitration, adjudication or mediation, and Shoor has argued before judges, international and domestic arbitrators and administrative bodies in several Canadian jurisdictions.

Shoor studied science at the University of Windsor, earned an LLB at the University of Leicester and completed the National Committee of Accreditation process before being called in Ontario in 2014, then in British Columbia in 2020. Looking back on that path in a 2024 piece, Shoor credits mentors who later became champions and handed over high-profile cases, and recalls building a profile by writing for trade publications and speaking on niche subjects.

That habit stuck. Shoor writes, speaks and comments widely on construction law and project risk, talked to the CBC about the Supreme Court's Sudbury decision, teaches in Osgoode's Professional LLM in Construction Law, and runs an ongoing series called Shoor on Projects. Chambers Canada, The Legal 500 Canada and Lexpert all recognize the practice, and the Ontario Bar Association gave Shoor its Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers Award in 2024.
