About Ryan

Ryan Phillips is the Managing Partner at JSS Barristers, with an advocacy practice in commercial litigation and administrative law, including contractual interpretation, arbitration, construction, professional negligence, and judicial review. He has considerable experience in commercial arbitrations and litigation at all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court, the superior courts of British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and the Supreme Court of Canada, including acting for the Information and Privacy Commissioner in judicial reviews. Ryan graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with Dean's List standing, where he competed in the Gale Cup criminal-constitutional moot and studied for a semester at Bond University on Australia's Gold Coast. He was called to the British Columbia bar in 2012 before moving to Calgary and joining JSS Barristers in 2014, where he was called to the Alberta bar. In 2023 he was named Emerging Talent Alberta Litigator of the Year by Benchmark Litigation, and he has been recognized as a Litigation Star and by Best Lawyers for Corporate and Commercial Litigation.
