About Rick

Rick Engel is counsel at Gerrand Rath Johnson LLP with a concentrated practice in labour law and human rights litigation, currently serving as solicitor of record for a number of major Saskatchewan unions. He was co-counsel for the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour and numerous unions before the Supreme Court of Canada in the first case recognizing the right to strike under the Charter's freedom of association guarantee. Rick has served as Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and past Chair of the Southern Saskatchewan CBA Labour and Administrative Law Section. He joined the firm in 1989, became a partner in 1993, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2004. Rick earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 1982 and a Juris Doctor from Queen's University in 1983.
