About Richard
Richard D. McLean is the senior partner at Thompson, Tooze, McLean and Elkin and has more than 50 years of experience in civil litigation. He started at the firm as an articling student in 1957, was called to the bar in 1959, and became a partner in 1963. His practice covers occupiers' liability, construction, property damage, municipal liability, and wills and estates, and he studied law at Osgoode Hall Law School with honours. He has represented Canadian and American insurance companies at every level of court in Ontario, concentrating on complex insurance defence and excess insurance litigation as well as personal injury matters and general counsel work. Over his career he has run numerous jury and non-jury trials involving personal injury and product liability claims and now works as a mediator on various litigation matters. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1971 and received the Life Member honour from the Law Society of Upper Canada.
