Technology & StartupsRachel Freeland is an associate at Black & Associates whose corporate and commercial litigation practice is informed by her earlier career in the technology industry. She articled at a national law firm, working on complex litigation and administrative law matters including judicial review and appellate proceedings before the Federal Court of Appeal, and she completed a technology law internship with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and a labour relations internship at a national bank. Before and during her legal career she worked with several technology start-ups, most recently as a Finance and Operations Specialist at a blockchain company, where she supported financial operations, investor and regulatory due diligence, and corporate record-keeping. She earned her Juris Doctor, graduating cum laude with a specialization in law and technology, from the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Common Law, and holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, First Class Honours, from Queen's University's Smith School of Business, and studied abroad at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2024 and has served on the uOttawa Law Review and volunteered with REACH Canada.
