Daren is a Partner in the firm's Halifax office, where his practice centers on tax, estate planning, business succession and corporate law. He provides tax services to corporations, trusts, non-profits and high-net-worth individuals, with a focus on tax planning for businesses and their owners, and his work spans mergers and acquisitions, domestic and cross-border tax planning, corporate structuring and reorganizations, and disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency. He received his Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) designation in 2011 and is a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner. He was president of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society in 2016-2017 after serving three years on its Executive, and was twice elected to McInnes Cooper's Board of Directors between 2011 and 2017. From 2004 to 2010 he was a member and then Vice-Chair of the Nova Scotia Securities Commission, representing the Canadian Securities Administrators on the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators. He was named Best Lawyers' Trusts and Estates 'Lawyer of the Year' in Halifax for 2026.
