Health care professionals facing a complaint or a lawsuit are a big part of Phedely Ariste's practice as an associate in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. Physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists, dental hygienists and other practitioners regularly bring Ariste in, whether the matter sits before a regulator or in a civil court. Commercial litigation is the other main thread, and Ariste works in English and French alike. Best Lawyers included Ariste in its 2027 Ones to Watch in Canada list for Corporate and Commercial Litigation.

Government work is familiar ground. Ariste helps clients with government relations and regulatory matters. Earlier work with the Independent Senators Group on Parliament Hill meant reviewing bills and reports put before Parliament and advising senators on legislation and policy. Ariste is also a director of the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation and sits on the board of the Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario.

In the courtroom, Ariste has argued in Ontario's Superior, Divisional and Small Claims courts, the Federal Court of Canada and Alberta's Court of King's Bench, following calls to the Ontario bar in 2020 and the Alberta bar in 2025. Tribunal work is just as broad, from the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario to the CRTC and the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, along with commercial arbitrations. Business clients range from individuals and corporations to public bodies, telecom companies and not-for-profits, and Ariste has led corporate investigations and regularly heads up sports investigations.

Lawyers working through Ontario civil procedure may already have read Ariste's chapters on judicial review under Rule 68 and on bilingual proceedings under section 126 of the Courts of Justice Act in Civil Procedure and Practice in Ontario. Ariste earned a JD magna cum laude at the University of Ottawa through its dual program with Political Science, finishing with the Common Law Section Dean's Award.
