About Peter
As Counsel at McInnes Cooper, Peter draws on nearly two decades of public service and a legal background to advise business and public sector leaders across and beyond Atlantic Canada. He served in the Parliament of Canada for over 18 years, holding cabinet portfolios that included Justice and Attorney General, National Defence, Foreign Affairs, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and chaired the government's national security committee for close to a decade. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Crown prosecutor in Nova Scotia and practised as a general practitioner before entering politics. Peter earned his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1990 and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1991 and the Ontario bar in 2016. He sits on the boards of Special Olympics Canada and Wounded Warriors Canada.
