Peter Engelmann is a partner at Goldblatt Partners in Ottawa whose career in labour law began on the front lines of major strikes in Edmonton in the 1980s, including the Gainers, Canada Post, and nurses' strikes. Since relocating to Ottawa in 1988, he has litigated large and complex matters in pay equity, human rights, and constitutional law, and more recently has worked on class actions seeking unpaid overtime compensation for employees. He served as Lead Commission Counsel to the Cornwall Public Inquiry. Alongside his major litigation files, he regularly represents individuals in labour arbitration, human rights, and professional discipline matters, including cases involving same-sex couples' pension rights. He has argued cases from the Supreme Court of Canada down to numerous administrative tribunals and co-authored Trade Union Law in Canada, a text on the internal workings of trade unions.
