About Paul

Paul Champ is a litigator focused on employment, labour, human rights, and constitutional law. He represents trade unions in labour relations matters and individuals in complex employment cases, with extensive experience representing public sector employees, and he and his clients have established legal precedents in Charter rights, privacy, occupational health and safety, discrimination, cross-border employment, disability law, access to information, prisoners' rights, and corporate accountability for abuses abroad. He has hundreds of reported legal decisions and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on several occasions. Champ regularly acts as counsel to organizations including Amnesty International, the BC Civil Liberties Association, the Council of Canadians with Disabilities, and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, and he teaches law at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. He studied law at the University of British Columbia (LLB) and McGill University, and holds a journalism degree (B.J.) from Carleton University. He began his career as a prosecutor with the Saskatchewan Department of Justice, later worked for eight years as an associate and partner at a union-side labour firm in Ottawa, and established Champ & Associates in 2009.
