About Champ & Associates

Champ & Associates is a litigation firm in Ottawa, working from an office on Florence Street in the city's Centretown neighbourhood. Founder Paul Champ established the firm in 2009, after eight years as an associate and partner at a union side labour firm in Ottawa, Raven, Cameron, Ballantyne & Yazbeck LLP, and an earlier stint as a prosecutor with the Saskatchewan Department of Justice. The firm has grown to six lawyers, with a practice built around employment law, labour law, and a broader public law docket that includes constitutional and Charter litigation, privacy rights, and administrative law.

The firm's litigation has included representing Ottawa businesses and residents in a $300 million class action against the organizers of the 2022 downtown Ottawa protest occupation, and helping file the first injunction application to end that occupation. Champ worked on litigation related to what became known as the Afghan detainee issue, over the Canadian military's transfer of detainees in Afghanistan, and was part of the legal effort that worked toward the release of Canadian citizen Omar Khadr from United States detention at Guantanamo Bay. Paul Champ also serves as general counsel to the Professional Footballers Association Canada, working on the employment side of professional sports.
