About Nicola

Nicola Brankley advises primary and excess insurers on coverage matters involving commercial general liability, professional errors and omissions, directors' and officers' liability, property, and construction-related policies. She also serves as defence counsel for insurers and insureds, focusing on first-party coverage disputes, professional liability, construction matters, and complicated property and liability claims, and has successfully defended clients in individual claims, class actions, and mass tort cases. Her client base includes financial advisors and dealers, insurance brokers, MGAs, accountants, engineers, amateur sports organizations, and residential and commercial property owners. She has argued before every level of court in Ontario and once appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in a leading case on pure economic loss. Her trial experience spans both jury and non-jury proceedings, and she is known for weighing the details of complicated cases against their broader litigation context. Outside the office, she spends time with her family and plays volleyball.
