Michelle Easton is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, and brands are the heart of the work. Canadian and international companies from many different industries rely on Easton to protect, manage and enforce their trademarks. On any given file that might mean clearing and filing a new mark, acting in an opposition or cancellation proceeding, chasing infringers online or in a domain name dispute, or handling the licensing and transactional side of intellectual property.

Much of the practice involves looking after trademark portfolios, both within Canada and around the world, and putting together filing, protection and enforcement programs that are coordinated across several jurisdictions. Easton takes a commercial view of that portfolio work and aims to help clients decide where to spend, keep risk under control and get protection that actually fits the markets they're in.

Easton was called to the Ontario bar in 2006 after earning an LLB at Osgoode Hall Law School, then completed an LLM at the University of Toronto with a specialization in innovation law and policy. In January 2017, Gowling WLG made Easton a partner in its Canadian intellectual property and patents practice.

Best Lawyers in Canada has recognized Easton since 2022, and the partner has also been named in the WTR 1000 and Thomson Reuters' Stand-out Lawyers. Easton's writing has appeared in the World Trademark Review as well.
